Home & School
The Home
and School Association (HSA) at St. Rose of Lima School offers an opportunity for parents and teachers to work together for the
advancement of our children’s education in a Catholic environment.
An active organization with tremendous parent, teacher and
staff participation, the HSA seeks to:
·
Help parents, teachers and students
acquire an appreciation for and understanding of Catholic education;
·
Provide opportunities for open dialogue
between faculty and parents and to direct ideas and suggestions to the
appropriate channels;
·
Promote and strive to achieve higher
spiritual, academic and physical education at Saint Rose of Lima School;
·
Help satisfy the physical and educational
needs of the school;
·
Promote effective communication among
home, school, church, and community in the best interest of the child; and
·
Maintain open channels of communication
with the Student Council.
The
Association is led by a board
of 11 elected parent-volunteers and faculty
representatives including the principal.
Board
meetings are usually held on the third Thursday of each month and
are open to all parents and members of the school community.
Throughout the school year, the HSA pursues its objectives by organizing
various fundraising and social
events and special programs that support the academic and administrative needs of the school and foster
a spirit of community at St. Rose.
Membership in the St. Rose of Lima HSA is free of charge and open to all
faculty members, parents and guardians. St. Rose of Lima parents have always
been an incredible resource of volunteerism and expertise. As such, continued
volunteerism and parent participation in the classroom and in all areas of
school life, including HSA-sponsored activities is strongly encouraged.
The Cardinal, a newsletter
published by the HSA, includes information on school events and activities, as
well as suggestions on how parents can get involved.

SOCIAL
EVENTS
Halloween
Howl: The HSA traditionally sponsors St. Rose of Lima’s booth at
this annual Miami Shores event. Donations
of wrapped candy and volunteer help are always needed.
Breakfast with Santa: Volunteers
are always needed for decorating, serving, and selling tickets at this fun,
festive holiday event.
Family Fun Nights: Past family fun nights have
included board games, outdoor games, pizza and dessert.
PROGRAMS
Parent Participation Program (PPP): The PPP gives parents at St. Rose of Lima an opportunity
to get involved and get to know each other while helping to cut operating costs
for the school. Each family is
required to donate 20 hours of volunteer time during the year. In addition to time, monetary and other donations are also
worth valuable PPP hours. For every
$10.00 donated in the form of cash or merchandise – excluding donations to the
church and gift wrap purchases – a family will be credited with one PPP hour.
More detailed information about the PPP, including a card on which to track
hours and/or donations, is sent home at the beginning of the school year.
In addition to volunteering at school-sponsored events, other
ways to help out and earn PPP hours include chaperoning field trips, monitoring
the cafeteria and playground during
lunch and recess, working on Lend-a-Hand
Saturdays, and helping out in the library. The possibilities to earn PPP hours are endless!!
